Internet Marketing for the Web 2.0

Dancing close to the Revenue Line

Hey guys, you’ve probably noticed that this little ‘ol blog of mine has been getting very little attention from me.  Well guys, I really hate to do this, but I’m gonna excuse myself because I’ve just got a lot going on at the moment.

Throughout the day/week we have to constantly make decisions on how best to utilize our time.  For me, I choose to “Dance close to the Revenue Line”, by which I mean I choose to work on the projects that are less than 3 steps from the revenue line.  Working 60+ hours a week has also kind of stilted my inspiration.  Things will lighten up here soon after I get on the other side of this product launch I’m working on for April.

I’ll be dropping in here occasionally, but I don’t expect this blog to be very active for about another 4 or 5 weeks.

Blessings and Light,

Glen McNiel

Beginner Tips for SEO video

In this video, Senior VP at Network Solutions, Stephanie Leffler outlines very concisely what it takes to get good search engine rankings. She briefly explains how important it is and why. Then goes into the 3 things you have to do to lead the listings:

  1. Good Content - Search engines are looking for the sites that know the most and are the most reputable on a topic.
  2. Links to your site - “Search engines view links kind of like a voting system. So if you have a site that links to you, it’s like their saying, “Oh that site is voting for your site.” Important: Use the keyword in the link! Example: Search Engine Marketing = good link. As opposed to: For info on Search Engine Marketing, Click Here
  3. Title Tags and Meta Tags - These are just behind-the-scenes pieces of text describing a page or website. These are the same titles and descriptions that show up in search results. It’s important to have your keywords there and that they focus on the content.

I really appreciate the way they were able to take a complex subject and boil it down into very simple terms. Many of the things we have been and will continue to be talking about in our one on one Internet Marketing coaching sessions will come back to these basic concepts again and again.

One nice thing about WordPress and the package of plugins we’ve installed on your sites, is that it builds your Title and Meta tags almost automatically. Freeing us to work on creating great content and building links. I’ll be posting more articles on these subjects here very soon.

Pop your thoughts and questions concerning the 3 points above into the comments section below. I’ll be sure to answer them in the follow-up(s) to this post.
